German Shepherds -- "Alsatian Wolf Dog"
History: German
Shepherds had been on earth since 1899 and were located in the
Germany area. This breed was known commonly as German Shepherd Dog
“GSD” in the English language. They were also formerly known as
Alsatian or the Alsatian Wolf Dog. Like many other dogs, this breed
was bred for jobs like herding sheep and protecting flock because of
their appearance. During WWI, the German government used the German
Shepherd as a red cross dog , messenger, rescuer etc. After WWI, the
German Shepherd breed increased between Americans and Germans. As the
bred started to increase they became common household pets and even
work animals. After WW2, police departments and military began
importing the breed from Germany because of their breed had high
performance rating. When the dog started to become imported
regularly, police departments and the military used them as their
mascots and for the work purposes.
Why German Shepherd are Great Pets: German
Shepherd are great pets for a family with children. This breed love
kids and will tolerate being poked around and played with with ease.
They typically live around 10-14 year so your child will always have
a friend to grow up with. This breed loves to be outdoors so it be a
great pet to take on trips and just take in the backyard with
children and play fetch. Whats great about owning a German Shepherd
is that they are very loyal dogs so their never leave your side. They
are also very protective so you never have to worry about anyone
hurting you or your children cause they'll always be there. However,
that doesn't mean their cautious of everyone, they love people and
will always be happy to see everyone. So you never have to worry
about any accidents; this breed is just a protective loving dog.
Health Problems: A
lot of dogs will have health problems whether they be genetic, from
breeding or they just catch them. Many of German Shepherd health
issues come from the inbreeding practiced. Some common issues can be
Hip and Elbow Dysplasia due to the size of the animal. Owning a
German Shepherd can be a big struggle because of the different
disease they can get. This breed is known to have Degenerative
myelopathy,which is a neurological disease. German Shepherds can also
get Exocrine pancreatic insufficiency(EPI) which is common among one
percent of this breed. Even though this breed has serious health
issues, this breed is still healthy as can be and perfect for anyone
to have.
